A new episode of 10 Things I Hate About You aired last night and I decided in the first five minutes of watching it that I possibly judged it a bit too harsh. Thinking back to the film, it was meant to be a more serious slight drama with a mix of comedy while the current show focuses on the comedy. Some have complained that the progam is too short, but when you think of its purpose on the Tuesday night block it's serve its comedial/family oriented purposes. According to the network Entertainment Weekly says its their favorite show of the summer. I don't often disagree with them but for this I have to. Maybe I have high expectations of ABC Family because the introduced me to Kyle XY 2-3 summers ago and that was a great show, even if at times it focused on corny family issues. I'll even give them credit for Greek, which admittedly is a total GP but at least it's a good one that draws the viewer in and develops it characters properly.
This week Kat deals with being a better environmentalist, thus working towards her dream of saving the planet. And how does she accomplish this? By turning her junker of a car into a biodeisel. Embarking on the task she ends up making a stand for women/feminist everywhere not falling prey to the stereotype of women as mechanics and the lame-o boys in autoshop class. In the midst of this challenge she and Patrick attempt to keep their distance from one another. Now, I've seen a lot of movies when two forces attempt to stay away from each other they always end up right where they were before. In their case they end up in autoshop together for the day and somehow Kat proves that she can make it worst. How do you go beyond stabbing a guy in the foot with a trash poker--IDK--she doesn't actually end up doing damage but she does spill oil on him and he of course must take off his shirt. Thus distracting her for a bit with his abdomens and revealing more than just his bod.
There were plenty of topless guys in this episode. While Bianca is attempting to climb the popularity ladder and be a cheerleader she gets roped into being Chem partners with Joey. Who turns out to be a nice guy with a dream of being a male model. Also Cameron, the hopeless romantic attempts to prove that he isn't gay but just continues to make a fool of himself. That's the jist.
One last comment, Jennifer Goodwin from "Watch With Kristin" states that "...it might just become an all-time great, in the tradition of My So Called Life, Buffy and The O.C." I'd say that the only possible way that this occurs is for the pure fact that this show has marketability and therefore has the ability to become a pop-phenomena.
