Lost 5.14 "The Variable"

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

....

NO! This is terrible! Not my Daniel! *sniff* Aw man. I can't believe it! I'm so upset right now! What?! Just...WHAT?!

Ahem...

Ok, I'm trying to calm down a bit now, but that ending was just horrible! I thought this episode was FANTASTIC, and then that ending. Damn. It makes it all the more terrible, because the reason why this episode was so fantastic was because of Daniel Faraday, and I have to give HUGE props to Jeremy Davies who was AMAZING tonight. Amazing! The way he portrayed Daniel's vulnerability throughout the episode was just heartbreaking, and he has constantly been one of my most favorite additions to the cast. I've always felt that Daniel was an extremely interesting character, and this episode just proved it ten-fold. Everything about him, from his sad childhood to his desperate need for his mother to be proud of him to his heartbreak over losing his memory to his confidence on the island that he could change things was just...perfection. And to have Eloise be the one that kills him in the end? That was just...so utterly disturbing, and the look on Daniel's face as he said "I'm your son" is one of the saddest things I've ever seen on this show. Damn. Just, damn! Why do you gotta be killing off all my favorite characters, Lost?!

There were other things that I enjoyed in this episode. First being the fact that Desmond is ok! Yay! I also love the weird relationship between Eloise and Widmore and I LOVED the fact that Widmore turned out to be Daniel's father (I was sort of suspecting it, but I like that it was confirmed). I also thought all of the stuff with Dharma was great. Really really tense! I have no idea what's going to happen with them next week, but gosh, I feel SO bad for Sawyer and Juliet :(. I also thought little moppet Charlotte was adorable and Daniel's conversation with Chang was hilarious! I'm also greatly intrigued to see what happens with the Swan station and whether or not one could actually change the past. There was some great set-up with this episode and I am freaking out about what's to come!

Even with all of that however, I still can't get over Daniel. Farewell Daniel! May you rest in peace with my other favorite characters killed off of Lost way too soon, Boone, Eko, and Charlie. You are in good company, sir! Namaste!

Oh, and for those zero people who are wondering, Matt got voted out on American Idol tonight! Which was good because I was absolutely convinced that Kris was going home, especially since he ended up in the bottom 3. But he didn't, so...thank you, America! I still can't believe Adam was in the bottom 2 though. Crazysauce! Still, Final 4! I'm so proud of Kris! Let's hope he can rock it for Rock Week next week!

American Idol Top 5 Finalists Perform: Rat Pack Attack!

Yes, this week is the ever-so-current theme of...Rat Pack Standards! Despite the fact that this show picks the most randomest themes, I'm actually pretty excited about it. I think we should get some good performances out of the thing. Also, Jamie Foxx is the mentor? Ok...could be cool, I guess? Why is this show so random?

And it's starting! Aw...all the guys are wearing suits. Apparently they normally sing 2 songs during top 5 week, but because this show has an inability to end on time they're only singing one each. I'm expecting a lot of filler.

Here are your top 5! Allison looks so pretty! Kris is so little, heh. Video package: there's a surprise mentor for the contestants! I already know who it is, Idol! It's Jamie Foxx. And now...a Jamie Foxx montage (filler).

Performance time!

Kris: Aw, I'm sad he's going first. Now I have nothing to look forward to, heh. He's so cute! Ahem. "The Way You Look Tonight". Love this song! Jamie Foxx loves him! He says he would do a record with him! He's his number 1! Ha! Go Jamie Foxx! This is so pretty! This is so soulful! Now he's walking around the stage. He looks really confident up there. It's picking up speed now. This is so great! Really good! It's so pretty and kind of sexy too, heh. Wow, I just 'squeed' aloud *shame*. The judges are loving him! Simon thinks it was a little safe though. Oh no, Simon doesn't think he can win. Shut it, Simon! Aw...despite what Simon said, that was really really good. He keeps getting better and better! All the way to the finale, baby!

Allison: She really does look gorgeous tonight. She turned 17 yesterday! "Someone to Watch Over Me". So, Jamie Foxx is actually kind of a good mentor. She's going slow too. Starting off really good so far. Very pretty. She's putting a lot of emotion into the song and it's really working for her. This is one of the first times that I've felt like she's really connecting to the song when she's singing. That was great! She's so adorable. I love her. Simon asks her if she can win, because he doesn't feel like she's being confident enough and thinks she could be in trouble! What is with Simon, tonight? He is in a bad mood. Shut. It. Simon.

Matt: "My Funny Valentine". So far, Jamie Foxx is giving the most critiques to Matt. Jamie Foxx is kind of hilarious. Matt is going slow tonight too. This is pretty good. Kind of boring though. Did I detect some out of tune notes there? It's hard to tell with Matt because he can't hold a note without doing his falsetto. The last note was really good and then he ruined it with his high falsetto at the end. Heh, Randy said "pitchy". That's the only thing he knows how to say. I want Matt to go tomorrow, but I feel kind of bad for him right now, because he always looks so serious. Wait...this is the performance you're going to praise tonight, Simon?! What?! Simon, what is going on?! This is getting ridiculous!

Danny: "Come Rain or Come Shine". Jamie Foxx is awesome! I never thought he would be this good of a mentor. Danny "walks" onto the stage, ugh. This is pretty good so far, as much as I hate to admit it. Oh wait, he's missing some notes here. He's picking it up right now. And there's the signature Danny shouting. Oh no, Danny. That ending was bad. He lost it in the end there. It was like a scream-fest. Ew. Ok, I guess he sang it well, I just cannot get behind his voice. NO! Danny-praise from the judges. Oh lord. Oh dear sweet Jesus. Simon, redeem yourself, please! He didn't. I hate this show. I hate this show and I hate Danny Gokey's stupid smug face.

Adam: "Feeling Good". Wait, is this the Muse version? Because I LOVE the Muse version! Yes, this is the Muse version! Wow...this is kind of sleazy, heh. He's changing it up a little bit, but it is almost exactly like the Muse version so I hope no one calls him original. OMG that glory note was held for WAY too long. I was expecting to LOVE this, but I didn't. I think I like the original too much and so I can't separate the two. He did sing it very well, but I'm with Randy, this felt WAY too "Broadway" for me, maybe more so than I've ever felt with him. But of course the judges love him.

Final thoughts: This was a really really good night. Is it just me or is this a pretty good Top 5? Like, no one is horrible (ok, well, Danny is horrible, but he is a good singer I guess). My favorite of the night was....actually I'm not sure between Kris or Allison. Which makes it all the more depressing in that those were the only two that Simon totally threw under the bus. Normally I'm with Simon, but he was WAY off tonight. I think that Matt will probably go home, but I'm worried about both Kris and Allison. Kris, because he went first and Simon critiqued him. Not to mention the fact that while he sang lovely, the song was pretty low key and might be forgettable. Allison's in danger because she's been in the bottom 3 a lot and Simon really trashed her tonight. I love Allison, but my two hours of voting is going to Kris, heh. Still, if you have any love for myself or this blog, you will vote for either of those two. Adam doesn't need your votes anyways ;)

My problems with Dollhouse....

...let me show you them.

I finally got around to watching the latest episode of Dollhouse, "Haunted", and lets just say it wasn't my favorite episode. I think this episode sort of summarized everything I don't really like about this show. True, it has been getting better. The last few episodes have been the best episodes of the series thus far, but I don't get all of the "Dollhouse is the greatest show ever!!!" talk that's been floating around lately.

It's main problem for me will still always be Echo. Do you know the reason why the last few episodes have been better? Because they didn't focus all on Echo, but instead let the other characters have the spotlight. Because "Haunted" was almost exclusively Echo, it was just....boring. I couldn't even pay that much attention to it. I'm starting to understand why people were saying this show couldn't work with a main character who was always a different person every week. It's because I have never felt connected to Echo once (and I kind of hate her real persona, Caroline, too. She's annoying). Maybe if Eliza Dushku was a better actress I could feel something, but she's not a very good actress! She's good at one thing: Faith. That's it. She cannot carry the show like this episode was trying to let her do. So it just ended up being SO boring.

Where this show does do well is in giving the other characters room to shine and focusing on the overarching story arcs. Most of the main arc revolves around Paul and his investigation of the dollhouse, so it probably comes as no suprise that I thought all of his parts of this episode were the best. I really liked his relationship with Mellie in the early episodes, but now it is just so disturbing (and that sex scene was totally hot, but totally icky). Every time we spend time with Ballard, we learn a little bit more about the dollhouse and the mystery, while at the same time getting some interesting moral stuff with the Paul/Mellie storyline. Why can't the show be about them?!

As far as the other characters go, this is another reason why I have a hard time with this show. I find Topher completely reprehensible, so the fact that the show constantly plays him for comic relief is disturbing to me. The same thing with Adelle. The show is trying to make her seem more sympathetic, but because I find everything she stands for entirely reprehensible, I can't muster any sympathy for her. The only people who work at the dollhouse who I sort of like are Boyd and Dr. Saunders, because they seem to have the most issues with what's going on, but even them I'm not too sure about. Heck, the only one who I could really truly like and not feel bad about was Laurence Dominic because he was such an asshole. And then he actually ended up being against the dollhouse the whole time! I loved him! I miss him already. Bring him back!

I'm finding that besides this last episode, I have been enjoying Dollhouse, at least moreso than I was at the beginning. But even when I am enjoying it, there's always that niggling thought in the back of my head that the show could be better. It just has to get a new lead actress, make the characters more likeable, and completely change around the plot. Yeah...that should work ;)

What does everyone else think about Dollhouse?

American Idol Top 7 Results Redux: 'Lost' Replacement

No Lost tonight :(
So it's the American Idol results show instead! Oh, don't kid yourself, it's totally a good replacement. I know you're all excited.

Yes, I'm liveblogging the American Idol results. Don't judge!

And here we go! God, they have the most dramatic recap videos ever. I'm still so happy for Kris from last night. He was so good. Also, to prove that I'm not just biased, the majority of the main stream media ranked Kris as the best performance of the night or a very close second. Go on and check! I'll wait....

Back? Good.

Video of the idols rehearsing a dance number choreographed by Paula Abdul! This is going to be such a train wreck, oh god. Danny thinks he's a good dancer...no, Danny.

Oh wow, this is painful. This is so cheesy! They're wearing ugly 70s clothes and doing ugly 70s dance moves. Adam is SO the most into this, heh. That was so terrible it went back around to being awesome! And now they're giving Paula a tribute. You know, I kind of like Paula. I used to hate her, but she's been surprisingly not horrible this season. Now Randy on the other hand...

Ford music video. They're working at different places? Adam and Lil have a dog spa? I'm normally watching Lost so I normally miss these. What is the point of these videos? They're so short and random.

Time for results!
Lil: She looks so nervous. Ryan puts her at the far end of the stage, but doesn't say she's in the bottom...and she is eliminated! Wow, they didn't prolong that one, did they? I'm glad she's going home, but I do sort of feel sorry for her. She was treated pretty horribly last night, even if it was kind of deserved. Paula said she's going out with class. I agree, good job Lil! Don't they normally give these contestants video sendoffs? Guess not.

Some disco singer is there singing a song. I didn't hear her name. I'm so bad with these old singers. She sounds....not good. Had to go check: Freda Payne singing "Band of Gold". Wait, is this a disco medley? Now Thelma Houston's singing "Don't Leave Me This Way". She sounds way better than the first lady. OMG she just sang "Simon...don't leave me this way" That's awesome! She keeps putting his name in the lyrics! She's great. K.C of K.C and the Sunshine Band singing "Get Down Tonight". That's what he looks like? That's surprising. He does not sound good either. And the medley's over, thank god.

Back to results!
Kris: Please be safe please be safe please be safe please be safe...oh god, he's so cute. AND HE'S SAFE! YAY! GOOD JOB, AMERICA!
Adam: Just say it Ryan, there's no way he's not safe. And he's safe!
Danny: Stop talking, Danny. The more he talks, the more I don't like him. He's safe. Crap! Wrong, America!
Anoop: Ryan just comes out and says that he's in the bottom three.
Allison: Wait...she has to be in the bottom three b/c there's only two people who Ryan hasn't talked to yet and there's two spots left in the bottom three. This is weird! Ryan doesn't say where she stands yet though.
Matt: Wait...Ryan just said he's safe! There is no bottom three, there's only a bottom two! Allison and Anoop are in the bottom two! SHIT! You really suck, America! It can't be Allison!

David Archuleta performance. That kid is so adorable. I was a David Cook fan, but I liked Archuleta too. Suprisingly, I don't think he sounds that great and the song is kind of weird. Still, whenever he smiles it makes me want to feed him milk and cookies and tuck him into bed. Ryan brings him over to talk to the bottom two, and he gives them inspirational advice. He's so adorable! I just want to smush his cheeks!

Here are the final results! I'm so nervous for Allison. I love you Noop Dawg, but Allison HAS to stay! AND SHE'S STAYING! ALLISON IS SAFE! Anoop is going home. Aw...he looks like he's going to cry. He sounds great right now. Anoop, you have a great voice, like really really great. I don't know why America never liked you. Now Lil and Anoop are getting their video sendoffs. These video packages always make me a little emotional. Aw, farewell Lil and Anoop!

Damn, that really got to me. I swear, this stupid show takes over your soul!
....I wonder what the theme is going to be next week? ;)

American Idol Top 7 Redux: I hope Adam sings "It's Raining Men"

DISCO! ....Who the hell picks these themes? Who wants to listen to these kids sing disco? Who wants to listen to anyone sing disco? Eh...

This is a pretty big episode because of the Historic! Judges! Save! last week, which makes me increasingly more and more pissed off the more I think about it. I won't truly know how I feel about the save until the results show tomorrow, where it will either be: expected (Lil, Matt, Anoop), soul-crushingly horrible (Kris, Allison, Adam), or the greatest thing in the history of great things (Danny). Of course, tomorrow is the double elimination which means everyone has a greater chance of going home, and I will spend a longer amount of time stressing out tonight and won't be able to sleep. Great! Can't wait!

I can never decide if I hate this show or love it. Sigh.

Lil: They're not doing pre-videos this week? "I'm Every Woman" This was a good song choice for her I think. She's dancing all over the stage. The backup singers are really overpowering her. I can barely hear her voice, so I have no idea if she sounds good. Well, it was fun, but....I'm still very 'eh' about her. Oh wow, the judges have really turned on her, heh. I kind of feel bad for her even though she NEEDS to go this week. And...she ruined all the good feelings by talking back to the judges. Please stop talking, Lil.

Kris: Crap, he has a horrible performance spot this week. Guitar! "She Works Hard For the Money" Ryan thinks we'll like it. OMG this is AMAZING already and he hasn't even started singing yet. You can really hear his guitar. He totally changed around this song. There's a bongo and a guy hitting a crate or something? It was folksy and acoustic and soulful and amazing! That was awesome! The audience loves him. The judges LOVE him. I'm so proud of him!

Danny: "September". He's screaming at me. If the judges don't give him the "karaoke" label, I'll be mad. Meh. I am not digging this performance at all! I know I'm biased because I hate him, but he didn't sound that great. Of course the judges liked it. Blech. His pitch is always right on? Really Kara? Simon did say he didn't get anything from the performance and thought it was clumsy though. Of course, then Paula had to go and tell Danny she'd see him in the finals. Ugh.

Allison: "Hot Stuff" She's sitting on the stairs and it's starting out slowly. The song is rocking now. Her voice is so good, but I still don't think this is the best we've seen of her. She's playing to the audience. Didn't really like her last note, but pretty good overall. The judges didn't like the arrangement but they loved her voice. Simon said it was brilliant.

Adam: "If I Can't Have You" He's in a suit! Crazy. He's singing the song slow! No, Adam! You were supposed to be crazy this week! It's pretty and he's singing it very well. He always looks so into the song when he sings. He really sells it. This is kind of boring though. Oh jeez, Paula is crying. That was....my least favorite Adam performance. It was very good, but it's just that all of his other performances have been better. The judges are slobbering all over themselves. I really really like Adam. I do. But I find the pimping from the judges kind of annoying.

Matt: "Staying Alive" Very upbeat and he's dancing around. Started out good, but he lost it during the chorus. Please stop with the high notes, Matt. Someone really needs to turn the volume down on the band and the backup singers. I can't hear him very well and I've been having that problem the whole night. Oh crap, he's singing with the backup singers now. He sounds a little out of breath during the chorus. Last note was not good. Randy doesn't like the song or the arrangement, but said he can sing. Kara has always been obsessed with Matt, but didn't overpraise tonight, which I'm glad. Paula said he saved himself this week. I disagree. I think he really hurt himself here. Simon didn't like it. Yay! I want Matt gone this week.

Anoop: Are they actually going to end on time? "Dim All the Lights" He's doing his ballad thing again this week. Sounds very pretty. Now it's sort of an R&B feel. His voice doesn't sound as good as it normally does, although it's still very good. I like you Anoop, but I didn't love this. The arrangement was weird and his voice wasn't as good as most weeks. Randy, Kara, and Paula liked it. Simon disagrees! He called it mediocre and his worst performance. Wow, harsh Simon, heh.

Overall? Kris was the best. Yes, I'm biased, but I thought his originality in changing the song was brilliant! I think the second best was Allison. Everyone else was kind of 'meh'. I'm thinking Lil and Matt are going tomorrow.

Chuck 2.21 "Chuck Versus The Colonel"

aka: 11 Reasons why this episode is the most awesome episode in the history of episodes
aka: I can't actually explain in words how awesome this episode is so let me scream at you!

1. Chuck/Sarah= Who doesn't love Chuck/Sarah? The make out/almost sex scene (damn you, Morgan!) was magical. These two belong together and this episode pushed them even closer.

2. Chuck/Sarah/Casey= They all love each other so much! Casey just wanted to be invited! They went to the rehearsal dinner as friends! OT3!

3. Casey= I feel like I've reached some kind of pinnacle in my Casey-love. Like, there is no possible way I could love him more than I do right now. How is he so perfect in every way? CASEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4. Fight Scenes= Casey beat someone up with a radiator! Enough said.

5. Scott Bakula and Chevy Chase= This show always has awesome guest stars. Chase as an evil Steve Jobs is awesome, but Bakula as Chuck's dad was a genius piece of casting.

6. Jeff and Lester= Two of the funniest moment of the night: Awesome saying Casey might have kidnapped Chuck and Lester replying, completely unaffected, "I don't care". And moments later Jeff sniffing the chloroform. They are so disturbing!

7. Godfather references= Big Mike as Michael Corleone? Awesome. Quoting whole chucks of The Godfather, Part 2? Even more awesome. Anything that references the Greatest Movie Ever Made is alright in my book.

8. Morgan= I can take or leave the guy most of the time, but his Benihana dream was adorable and his shirtless escape from the Buy More was genius!

9. Tony Hale= He is one of the funniest people on television. Love him!

10. Awesome= He was well, awesome! I love that it was him who found out Chuck's secret first. I cannot wait for the hilarity that is sure to come.

11. The Intersect! Out of Chuck's head!= What? So much stuff happened this episode, it felt almost like a series finale. The intersect is out of Chuck's head and now...where do we go from here? I don't know, NBC, where do we go from here? I can't wait until next weeks episode and next season to find out, right NBC?

Lost 5.13 "Some Like it Hoth" + American Idol Results

There was a moment this morning while I was in the shower when I seriously contemplated watching American Idol live instead of Lost....WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME, AMERICAN IDOL?! *sobs quietly in corner*

Ahem...

So, Lost tonight. Miles episode, yes? Star Wars references? Bring it on! (please don't let Kris get voted out please don't let Kris get voted out please don't....)

Lost
Baby Miles is SO CUTE. That is Baby Miles, right? Yep. Precious. Finding a dead body has to be traumatizing for a kid. Poor precious baby Miles.

Radzinsky is such a douche bag. "I'm in the circle of trust", heh. And that's a dead body. A dead hippie body. "The ditch had a gun", hee! God, I'm happy this is a Miles episode.

American Idol commercial break
Group number...from Flashdance! Matt really got the spotlight in this one. Adam cut his hair! And commercial break.

Lost
Punk Miles! Hilarious! Aw, Miles' mom is dying. Miles father is SO Pierre Chang. There's no concrete evidence for this, but I just have a feeling.

"Wait a sec...are you on some kind of secret mission?" Oh Hurley. I love Hurley and Miles together. It always leads to hilarity.

Juliet! I missed you last episode. Uncle Rico...Poor Uncle Rico. Why do I feel sorry for him all the time when he's such a douche? Oh my god, the way Juliet's face just changed there from worried and frantic to calm and composed was awesome. Elizabeth Mitchell is such a good actress.

American Idol
OMG THE ZEFFRON IS THERE! Ahem. Oh shit, they're building the bottom three right now. I'm so nervous. Allison is safe. Yay! Adam is safe. Duh. Anoop is in the bottom 3. I thought so. I think it might be his time, sadly enough. Went to commercial before announcing the rest.

Lost
God Hurley, why are you making things so difficult? Yeah, we all knew Hurley was going to find the body. Filling yanked from his tooth right through his brain? That's horrible! Why does Hurley immediately go the "talking with dead people" route? Oh yeah, he can talk to dead people, can't he, heh.

Why should this guy believe Miles was telling the truth? How does anyone know Miles is telling the truth about his ghost whispering? Who would ever give money to someone like that in advance? Stupid people. Naomi! Poor Naomi. Things did not go too well for her last time we saw her.

Is it just me or are they sort of setting up a Roger/Kate thing? That's...weird. God Kate, you are the worst liar ever. You need to take lessons from Juliet. Yeah, mind your own business, Kate!

"You're just jealous my power's better than yours" Hee! Oh, you two! Ha! Miles knows Pierre Chang is his dad! He looks so upset about this fact.

American Idol
Jennifer Hudson performance. She looks so pretty, and sounds great. I really like her. They went to commercial without anymore results. Ugh, this is killing me!

Lost
Purchase order for an old airplane, huh? So is this confirmation that Widmore faked the crash? Or has that already been confirmed? LOL "When do we leave?" Oh Miles...

His mother got in line behind him? That's freaky. Pierre Chang is kind of a douche too. What is with all the douches on this island. I enjoy saying that word, don't I?....douche.

Uncle Rico is suspicious. God, Kate, you ruin EVERYTHING! I don't think Jack is helping either.

LOL this conversation with Hurley in the car is awesome! He's not being exactly subtle about the father/son thing though, heh. Aw, Hurley likes Miles, methinks.

THE NUMBERS! It's the Swan Station?! Is this going to turn into Hurley trying to sabotage the Hatch building so it doesn't cause the plane to crash? Whatever happened, happened, remember Hurley?

American Idol
KRIS IS SAFE!!!!! Thank God! Bottom three: Lil, Anoop, and Matt. Anoop is the first one safe. YAY! Commercial break. I hope it will be Lil who goes, but I'm thinking it might be Matt. Honestly, I know I'm supposed to root for Matt because he's from Michigan and all, but I've just never warmed up to him. I wouldn't be sad if he was gone, so I hope they don't use the judges save on either of them tonight.

Lost
Guy named Bram. Dude, is he the guy who was with Illana on the plane who went crazy last week? Yes! "Do you know what lies in the shadow of the statue?" They're not working for Widmore?! What?! What is going on? In the season 4 episode, "Eggtown", Miles asked Ben for $3.2 million and that's what he asked from these guys too. It's double what Widmore was willing to pay him. Whoa. Holy shit, a lot of information is being thrown at us in this scene. Bram says his "side" is the one that's going to win. Does this have any connection to Widmore saying to Locke in "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham" that there was going to be a war on the island and the Locke had to go back to save everyone?

Aw, Hurley is trying to play counselor for Miles. They are so cute! I love them together! OMG did Hurley write Star Wars fanfiction?! He's writing Empire Strikes Back! He's so cute.

Hey Sawyer, missed you! "Why the hell would he think that?" Because Kate is an idiot and she ruins everything! You see Sawyer, this is why you should stay with Juliet. You know, I know everyone liked it when Sawyer laid the smack down on Jack, but I like it better when they're friends. I'm a fan of the bromance if you couldn't tell. And...Sawyer just punched that weird looking guy. This whole situation is just spinning out of control. Not good.

American Idol
Moment of truth. Lil is safe. Shit! Matt is the lowest vote getter. He's going to sing again for the potential save. I'm really nervous for him. The judges are "deliberating". Wow, Kara is being annoying with her dancing. She always had a hard-on for Matt. I can't tell if he sounds better tonight or yesterday. That high falsetto was still bad and it looked like he ran out of breath at points. And Lost is back so I'm being left in suspense.

Lost
Aw, Miles, you can be a good person sometimes. Miles has daddy issues just like everybody else on this show. I think the writers must have had really bad fathers.

Hurley teaching life lessons yet again. OMG Star Wars parallels, heh. Aw...what a nice scene between Hurley and Miles. What a good guy, Hurley is. Those two are perfect together. I hope they become a permanent tag team! Or a ghost hunting team! The Ghost Busters!

Aw Miles. Look, your dad did love you. Wow. I'm getting emotional watching this. This is so sad! I love it when Lost makes me get emotional, heh.

Scientists from Ann Arbor! Shout out again! Daniel Faraday, what the hell? WHAT THE FUCK? DANIEL, I MISSED YOU!!!!!!!!!! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?

*LOST*

Next week: No new Lost next week? *darth vader scream* NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Final Lost Thoughts: I liked it a lot! It was funny and touching and added a whole bunch of new mysteries. My favorite part was DANIEL FUCKIN' FARADAY! But all the stuff with Miles was great too. We needed to get a backstory episode for him, and I thought this one had just the right tone for a character who's so often played for comic relief. It was a bit more lighthearted, but still had some emotional moments. My biggest question coming from all of this however (besides what the hell Daniel was doing), is the whole "what lies in the shadow of the statue?" stuff. That made me the most intrigued and I can't wait to see how it plays out.

Final American Idol thoughts: Just checked and DUDE! They used the save on Matt! Wow! I was not expecting that. Hm...don't know how I feel about that. The fact that TWO people have to go home next week scares the crap out of me. Well, uh, good for you Matt, I guess. Apparently Simon told him that he has no chance of winning, but that they're saving him anyways. So...why use the save in the first place? What if someone more deserving goes home next week? Crap, now I'm all worried again. DAMN YOU, AMERICAN IDOL!!!!

American Idol Top 7 Finalists: Tarantino? Tarantino!

Yes, that's right, Quentin Tarantino is the guest mentor for the night. No, I don't know what he has to do with singing. Still, excited! Tarantino! Ahem..."Songs From the Movies" week. Of course, first person who sings a Disney song wins the night!

And here we go...

Allison: "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" from Armageddon. I love this song, but is this the best choice for Allison right now? Nice orchestra in the background. She's not really hitting the low notes. Much better on the chorus and at the end. She can really belt it out. It was pretty good, but not my favorite of hers. Paula and Simon liked it.

Anoop: "Everything I Do" from Robin Hood. Awesome, awesome job! One of his best performances. Anoop is in trouble, so I hope this helps him out.

Adam: "Born to Be Wild" from Easy Rider. This is going to be crazy. It's theatrical Adam this week! Well, that was entertaining to say the least. A bit too much, perhaps? Whatever, his voice sounded great. Everyone loved it. Paula's having an orgasm.

Matt: "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman" from Don Juan. This is a stupid song. He sang it fairly well, but I don't think it did him any favors. He still goes overboard with the falsetto and some of the notes were out of tune. Randy and Kara didn't like it.

Danny: "Endless Love" from Endless Love. Boring again. And not that good of a vocal. Please don't over-praise again, judges. Simon's dissapointed, thank god! Thank you, Simon! Finally!

Kris: Do me proud, baby! "Falling Slowly" from Once. Very pretty. The beginning was a little rough, but it kept getting better and better. Randy didn't like it because he's an idiot. Kara LOVED it! Wow, go Kara!

Lil: "The Rose" from The Rose. Oh no, Lil. This is a mistake waiting to happen. Her voice isn't strong enough for this song. The gospely part was better though. The last note wasn't good. Paula is spouting nonsense. Simon says she isn't the contestant he though she was. Go Simon, again! Finally someone said what I've been thinking. Oh no, Lil's giving Simon sass. Bad move, Lil.

Final verdict: I was a wee bit distracted tonight so I don't feel too strongly one way or another. My favorites tonight were Kris and Anoop. I think either Matt or Lil are going tomorrow.

...

VOTE FOR KRIS!

Mad Men Season 1

So I'm a little late on the Mad Men bandwagon, huh? Better late than never I always say! Because I'm really really glad I finally sat down to watch this show. I haven't been writing about my Mad Men experiences yet because it actually took me a while to get into the show. Compared to the other show I watched on DVD this year, Veronica Mars, where I would watch like 7 episodes in a row, Mad Men was different. Mad Men is a bit of a slow burn. It grows on you. I didn't realize how much I really enjoyed the show until I watched the end of the finale and cried out in frustration because I never wanted it to end.

From the very first episode I could see just how great of a show this was. The attention to detail, the rich characterization, the dialogue, everything about it was fantastic. I don't think I really started caring about this show however, until I really embraced the characters. I look at the episode "The Hobo Code" (which along with "Nixon vs. Kennedy" and "The Wheel" are my favorite episodes of the show so far) as the one which really dragged me into the show, because all of a sudden I felt truly immersed into these characters lives. Before that episode I spent so much time trying to figure all of the characters out, that I didn't realize that I never was going to figure them out. Not completely. Because they are just too complicated, and that's when I knew I couldn't quit the show. I cared too much about all the characters, even the ones I sometimes hated (I have a really strong love/hate relationship with Don).

I originally had written here a list of my favorite moments from the show, but of course, I ended up making it way too long and cut it out because all of my posts are way too long. Perhaps I'll make a separate post about them later, but for now, know that most of my favorite moments involve Betty shooting at birds, Don and Pete's rivalry, Sterling's softer side, Joan, Peggy/Pete, and any focus on the more minor characters (Sal, Harry, Paul, etc.).

I've still only watched the first season and I don't know when I'll be able to watch the second. Perhaps I'll just wait for the DVDs. Even so, Mad Men is a show I would recommend to anyone who likes good television, and really really awesome theme songs:

Lost 5.12 "Dead is Dead"

Still writing about the episode as it airs. Yes, there's going to be American Idol interludes:
  • Is this guy Widmore? He um...doesn't really look like grown up Widmore although he sounds like him. This guy's way hotter than Widmore. And I was right! Widmore was such a nice guy back then.
  • Little Ben breaks my heart.
  • The look on Adult's Ben face when he sees Locke is Hi-larious!
  • Judged by the smoke monster?! Oh shit that doesn't sound pleasant.
American Idol Commercial Break:
  • I know this is going to make me sound ignorant, but who the hell is singing right now? Old crooner? Anyone know? Ah, Frankie Avalon. I just want to warn everyone that I'm pretty sure I'm going to be done with American Idol after this week. Why? Because I just discovered something called DialIdol and now I'm convinced Kris is going to be eliminated tonight and if that happens I'm done. Done. This isn't just me being overdramatic either. If I have to endure Danny and Lil for another week without any Kris to counter them, I'm done. This show makes me more and more pissed off every week.
Lost:
  • "Have a nice day!" Oh Ben, you are so wonderful sometimes.
  • Hee! Ben is manipulating the other people from the plane. This is fantastic. Ben, you are fantastic!
  • Flashback wig! OMG that's a horrible wig. Little Ethan! Young Russeau...still crazy! Why does Ben take Alex anyways? That was a random scene that didn't really explain as much as I wanted it to.
  • Elephant in the room = Why did you kill me? Ha! So we finally know why Ben killed Locke. Oh Ben, you are so evil and matter-of-fact. How can such a little man be so imposing?
  • "I was just hoping for an apology". Hee! Oh Locke, I would be so much more upset than you :)
  • !!!!!!! Ben just shot Caesar! Hahahaha oh wow, Ben is bad. Ass. "Consider that my apology"?! I really do love Ben a lot, despite the fact that he is totally evil.
American Idol:
  • Mayor of Kalamazoo is there! My brother goes to college there. I wonder if he knows Matt. There is no possible way that's true, but it would be cool nonetheless. Ryan is going to announce the bottom 3 now. What is Paula wearing?! Actually, what the hell is Randy wearing? Adam's safe. Duh. Kris is....safe?! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! DialIdol was wrong!!!!! Sweet Jesus this is the greatest day of my life! Ahem...Anoop is in the bottom 3. Poor Anoop :(
Lost:
  • Ben wants to be judged for killing his daughter. I like that explanation. Widmore is being played by older Widmore now. Widmore is finally being a jerk. Widmore and Ben can't kill the baby, but this still doesn't explain why Ben took the baby in the first place.
  • Future Dharma. Where is Sun and Lapidus? What did Jack's dad do with them? Oh god, light in the house. So creepy. Is it Jack's dad? Please let it be Jack's dad. It's Sun! Yay! Even better!
American Idol:
  • Flo Rida performance. What does it say about me that I recognized Flo Rida, but not Frankie Avalon? Have no idea who else is in the bottom 3. Ryan looks so out of place standing next to Flo Rida, heh.
Lost:
  • Sun/Jin breaks my heart. When will they be reunited?! This show is so mean to them!
  • Bendiana Linus and the Temple of Doom!
  • Hahahaha flashback wig! Widmore in handcuffs? He left the island frequently and that's when he had Penny? The island wants Alex dead? This conversation is confusing me. What is going on? This is not how I was guessing Ben tricked Widmore into being banished from the island. I thought there would be frozen donkey wheels involved.
  • I can't tell if Ben is lying in the conversation with Sun or not. He's so wily.
American Idol:
  • Bottom 3 is Anoop, Scott, and Lil. PLEASE LET IT BE LIL!!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!
Lost:
  • Oh god Ben's in a marina. Oh god oh god oh god. NO! You will not kill Penny! Oh dear god! This is an occasion when I hate Ben. Ack don't cut back to the island now!
  • Ben and Locke are like spiteful children. That's what suprise!murder will do to two people, I guess.
  • Wait. How does Locke know all this stuff about the temple? Did I miss a crucial bit of information?
  • Tell Desmond I'm sorry??!! OH NO!!! BEN WHAT DID YOU DO???
  • Back to the marina. oh shit oh shit oh shit....NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE SHOT DESMOND!!!!! omgomgomgomgomg...BEAT HIS ASS, DESMOND! Shit, what just happened? WHAT JUST HAPPENED??!!! NO, NO COMMERCIALS! ACK!
American Idol:
  • It's in commercial right now, which is good, because I'm still freaking out about Lost. And it's back. Aw man...Anoop and Scott are in the bottom 2. And contestant with lowest votes: Scott. I said based on vocals he needed to go home, but I feel so sorry for him.
Lost:
  • Lord of the Flies, all up in this joint? Did Illana and the other dude get the sickness?! What is going on?
  • This is a really nice scene with Ben at the end. It's interesting how this episode has given us little glimpses into the nice side of Ben. I like that the show can show us he's sympathetic, while at the same time reminding us that we're not supposed to feel for him too much...because he can be an evil bastard.
  • Smokey! Inside smokey are Ben's memories. Wow, this is making me really sad watching this. Alex! This is just like when Eko was killed! This is what happened to Eko right before he was killed. If I'm interpreting this right, the smoke monster manifests itself as someone who the person was close to and got killed, and then it "judges" them. Eko didn't pass the test with his brother, but Ben passed the test with Alex. Interesting.
*LOST*

Next week: All about Miles. I like Miles, so I'm excited!

Overall thoughts: Liked it A LOT! Ben is such a dynamic character and Michael Emerson is such a great actor, that any episode focusing on him is bound to be good. This one did a good job in giving us plenty of mythology to sort out while at the same time adding more depth to the Ben character. Maybe one of my favorites of the season. More importantly though, IS DESMOND OK? I'm really concerned, you guys.

Final American Idol thoughts: They didn't use the judges save on Scott, which I wasn't expecting, and I really didn't think they should. I love Scott as a person though and wish him all the best! On a lighter note, looks like I will be watching American Idol next week. Damn you, Kris! :)

American Idol Top 8 Finalists: This is my American Idol shame

So...it's going to be weekly thoughtsicles then? Ok!

Danny: "Stand By Me" Meh. The arrangement was boring until the end. I don't like his voice that much. Why does everyone like him so much? Shut up with the over-praise, judges!

Kris: My favorite contestant. "All She Wants to Do is Dance". Rockin' the guitar again. His voice sounds so good. I really liked that performance. Oh my god, shut the fuck up judges! How was that indulgent? Go die, Simon! Wow, Simon is on my bad side now. I disagree with the judges completely. Crap, I'm in a bad mood now. There's probably going to be a lot of hate in this post.

Lil: "What's Love Got To Do With It" I don't think she can sing the big notes very well. Once again, why do I feel like she isn't as good as she thinks she is. Whew, that last note was bad. Thank you, Paula! Wow, finally the judges and me are on the same page! I still hate you, Simon.

Anoop-Dog: "True Colors" Going slow again. He sounds really good when he slows it down. Nice falsetto at the end. Overall, pretty good. Judges agree.

Scott: I think Scott is awesome, but he really is the worst singer left on the show. Still want him to stay around longer than Lil and Danny though. "The Search is Over" Scott plays the guitar? OMG what? He's rocking it! Aw. He missed a couple of notes, but I thought that was one of his best performances just because it was more upbeat. He's so funny. I love him.

Allison: "I Can't Make You Love Me" Great, great job. She's such a good singer. I really hope she's not in the bottom 3 tomorrow! Vote for Allison!

Matt: Michigan shout-out! "Part Time Lovers" I loved it! Maybe my favorite performance of the night! Good job, Matt!

Adam: Of course Adam gets the pimp spot. "Mad World" Oh my god, no way! I fucking love this song! This is so perfect for him. His voice is always so good. Simon gives him a standing ovation. I still hate Simon tonight, but Adam deserved it. That was really really good.

Going through all the contestants again, I think Adam ended up being my favorite. Allison and Matt were the next best. Based on performance alone, Scott should be going home, but I hope it's Lil that goes. I'm saving all my votes for Kris anyways. :)

House 5.20 "Simple Explanation"

Kutner is dead? KUTNER IS DEAD?! That was...completely and totally unexpected. What is with this show? Why does it kill off/not give enough screentime to all of its good characters, but keep the annoying ones coughforemanandthirteencough. I don't normally write about House, mostly because I don't really care too much about the show anymore. There have been episodes I've missed this season that I haven't bothered to go back and watch (including last weeks, which I'm hoping wasn't extremely important in relation to what happened this week). I decided to watch this week's however, because it was supposed to be a huge "event" episode.

On a more serious note though, this was a really really strong episode because it felt real. The whole episode I was expecting them to answer why Kutner killed himself. I was waiting for it, but more importantly I wanted to know. Much like House, I needed to know. But like it so often happens in real life, sometimes when people commit suicide their loved ones are left with no answers. They will never know why someone did it. And this episode left the audience feeling that as well. I felt so empty and lost by the end of the episode, much like the characters did. I really really liked seeing House being so emotional over what happened, and trying to find out why, not because he needed all the answers, but because he really did care about Kutner. And Taub's break down in the end was well played seeing as how as far as I can remember, him and Kutner were the closest.

I'm still kind of reeling over this episode, and I feel absolutely terrible since I really liked the character of Kutner a lot. Really really powerful stuff, and I think that House handled it well, but I still can't help thinking "Why?"

Supernatural 4.18 "The Monster At the End of This Book"

Love. So much love.
Because there was no new Office or Grey's, I got to watch Supernatural live tonight! And it was glorious! The meta and in-jokes were totally spot on and hilarious! Being a fan of this show for a long time, I caught every single reference they threw out there. They even referenced the username of a person who posts at a messageboard I frequent. Crazy! Although I think my favorite part was the publisher gushing over how the best parts are when they cry, hee! It's um...kind of true.
Of course, the cool thing about this episode was the incorporation of the mytharc. I loved how they integrated everything into the episode while still making it funny. Castiel giving Dean subtle hints in order to help him was great (I think I may be in love with Castiel, seeing as how I shrieked when he came onscreen) and Chuck the prophet was awesome and hilarious. I also thought the stuff with Lillith was really intriguing and set up so much Sam goodness. Sam can be kind of scary and this episode really hit home how much he's begun to fall. I thought the Sam and Dean dynamic in this episode really worked, both their fear for each other and their anger at each other's actions. I thought that this episode was a really clever way to further the mytharc while still doing a service to the characterization.

This is why Supernatural is so awesome. I don't really write about Supernatural too much, but I always enjoy it. Always. I started watching this show at the end of its first season and I was downright obsessed with it for all of its second season and much of its third. My love isn't at quite the levels of intensity it used to be, but I still love this show for all that it is. I don't think its given enough praise at all. It's consistently funny, emotional, and scary, with two great actors and characters and tons of creativity. I've never watched a show (besides Lost) that has been so consistently daring in its storytelling. This season alone has had an episode take place entirely in the past, one that was all in black and white and featured Dracula ordering a pizza, an episode with a giant suicidal teddy bear, one entitled "Criss Angel is a Douche Bag", and one that featured an alternate reality where the two main characters were desk jockies. I'm extremely happy that the ratings this season are up and that it already got picked up for a 5th season, but I still don't think this show gets the credit it deserves. I urge anyone reading this blog to give it a try, I guarantee you'll like it!

Lost 5.11 "Whatever Happened, Happened"

Kate episode. Let's hope it isn't as boring as all of the other Kate episodes:
  • Previouslies: I still can not get over the fact that Sayid shot Ben. It was just so...disturbing.
  • I can't help it, I feel so bad for little Ben. That kid is so innocent looking and a really good actor.
  • Aw Turnip Head. So cute. "Catch a Falling Star" was the song Claire wanted the family who was going to adopt Aaron to sing to him. Did Kate know that or is it just a meaningful coincidence like this show does so often?
  • I'm watching American Idol during commercials. The group numbers are always so painful. Ugh Megan you better be gone tonight.
  • So Cassidy knows the whole story now, hm? Is this going to come back later? Yeah, it probably will.
  • "I'll shoot you in the leg" Ha! I'm sorry Zozzizle, I love Miles.
  • Hurley freaking out about dissapearing was great. I loved this conversation between Miles and Hurley about time paradox. But which theory do we believe is true?
  • American Idol check-in: Building the bottom three now. Kris better not be in the bottom! And....they didn't announce anything. Wow. This is why I kind of hate this show.
  • I kind of agree with Jack. It's sort of douchey that he doesn't want to save Ben, but at the same time I can understand why he wouldn't want to. And I also kind of like the new Jack better, not the old Jack.
  • Uncle Ri--I mean, Roger is making me feel bad for him and for little Ben and its making me feel weird.
  • Hurley + Miles = Awesomesauce: "Huh. Hadn't thought of that." Oh wow I am loving this conversation. It's like Lost wants to talk about all the crazy time stuff, but they didn't want to make it boring so they gave it to the two most humorous characters on the island.
  • American Idol commercial interlude: David Cook! I was so happy he won last year. What a cool guy. Still no results, what a surprise!
  • Them taking Ben to the Others does not seem like a good idea at all.
  • Aaron was all a figment of Kate's imagination! Oh, just kidding, he ran off with someone who looked like his real mom. Toddler Aaron has always been kind of annoying.
  • American Idol time: Allison is in the bottom three?! NO! Oh good, Megan's there! That's good at least. Adam's safe. Duh. Kris is safe! Yay! That's all that really matters. Danny is safe. Boo. Scott is safe. Anoop is in the bottom three :(
  • Auntie Kate?! Why is Kate so annoying all the time? I want to like her, but I...can't.
  • Sawyer broke her heart? What is with all this Poor Kate/Bad Sawyer talk? The reason why I started shipping Sawyer/Juliet was because I thought Kate always treated Sawyer so horribly and he deserved way better.
  • "I'm doing this for her." Yay!
  • Oh shit Juliet is pissed! I really like this convo between Jack and Juliet. She's saying things we're all thinking. Elizabeth Mitchell is such a good actress.
  • Aw Sawyer asking about Clementine. What a cutie, he is.
  • This episode is all about revisiting the old "couples": Kate/Sawyer and Jack/Juliet. I surprisingly like this. I think these people dealt with so much emotion between each other during their time on the island together that they need to have these conversations. Sawyer needs to clear things up with Kate and Jack and Juliet need to talk things out with each other.
  • AI again: Lady GaGa is so scary. Simon says only one is worth saving. He's totally talking about Allison.
  • I knew Kate was going to leave Aaron with his grandma. I really like this scene. It may actually be making me sad. Yep, I'm a little choked up. So Kate giving up Aaron is supposed to symbolize her becoming stronger? Because before, when she first got off the island, she said she needed Aaron (but why is this? Are we supposed to interpret that it's only because Sawyer left her?), but now her giving him up is her recognizing that she doesnt need him and that she doesn't have to hide behind him anymore. Maybe? I don't know. I feel like I shouldn't be so confused about this. Did I miss something?
  • Richard Alpert is going to turn Ben into an Other by having the island save him.
  • Ellie? Charles? as in Hawking and Widmore? Are they still on the island at this point? That was a typical Lost throwaway line that's going to have huge significance later.
  • Aw shit... creepy smoke monster home. That can't be good.
  • Michael Emerson, I missed you this episode. "Welcome to the land of the living". What the hell, Locke? You're so weird.
  • Next Week: All About Ben. Sweet! So excited! Looks better than this week was.
Overall, I enjoyed the episode like I do every week, but it wasn't one of my favorites. I'm glad we got confirmation about what happened to Aaron and why Kate came back, but this felt like a set up episode for next week. Had good character moments and some funny stuff with Hurley and Miles, but overall: meh.

Final American Idol Check-In: Megan was eliminated! Whoo! All is right with the world!
