Allison Iraheta's New Single, "Friday I'll Be Over U"

Hey, look at that! Not everything is about Kris Allen after all.

Y'all remember Allison? The little red haired rocker, with one of the most amazing voices you will ever hear? Yeah, it's her first single! I'll admit that this is a little more pop than I was expecting from her, and I think it's overproduced a little bit too much, to the point where sometimes it's hard to distinguish her unique voice. But overall? I kind of love it. It's catchy as hell and I already have it stuck in my head. I hope it's a huge hit for her, and I'm kinda hoping she becomes the 100 million times more awesome and talented version of Miley Cyrus, since I think they'll be marketing her towards the same market. Her album will also be out on December 1st! I can't wait! Go Allison!

What do you think?

:(

Do. Not. Like.

Waaaaaay too overproduced and also it doesn't play to her strengths -- this could have been recorded by any number of people out there in the pop world right now. Boo.

I'm hoping this is just a catchy, mainstream, dance-y number her producers cooked up to get her radio play on Radio Disney and 95.5 and stuff, 'cause if the rest of her album is like this, I will not buy it. Which bums me out, 'cause I love her.

Aw :(

Yeah, I was disappointed when I heard it at first, because like you said, it doesn't really play to her strengths. Her strength is her amazing voice and this kind of whitewashes it a bit.

But think of it this way, Allison is still relatively unknown. Sure she was on American Idol, but not winning or being the runner up means she has less of a built in fanbase. This song is extremely catchy and fun and upbeat, and very popular on the radio right now. Hopefully, it will get her noticed right away so more people will know who she is and will lead to more people buying her album, which I'm hoping will have a much more authentic "rock" sound.

Jive seems to be taking the same strategy with Kris. Despite Kris being billed as a "singer-songwriter", he didn't write his first single, but it is really damn catchy and radio-friendly. I think this is just to get his name out there more and get more of the mainstream public to notice him. I imagine more songs that he wrote will be on his album (omg Kris album alsdkfjasldjfsljf) :)

I'm going to be buying Allison's album regardless, because I love the girl to death. I still have hope that the sound will be closer to the Allison I fell in love with on the show.

LOL wow this was long, sorry. You know how I get about AI ;)

Well, I get that they want to have her first song be a "hit", but I'm kinda of the mind: At what cost?

Personally, I don't find this song that catchy (at least, it's not catchy in a good way -- more just "catchy" in that it worms its way inside your head and is annoying, heh).

It makes me sad that they are doing the same with Kris and his first song.

This overproduced shite has got to stop! It's ruining music and ruining my favorite Idols! I think it's a sad state of affairs that they have to ruin what makes these singers so good in the first place in order to get "radio play" and "popularity." Ugh.

No, I hear ya. And when you think about it, Allison, Adam, and Kris were all expected to record an album in about 4 months, while at the same time going on a country-wide tour. It's why I'm not really expecting anything earth shattering for their debut albums.

Also, I'll say this about Allison, girl is 17. I get the feeling they are going to try and market her to kids her age. Unfortunately kids her age like some pretty generic music. It's why even though I was disappointed when I first heard her single, I wasn't really surprised. I said that I hope the rest of her album is more "rock", but honestly? I'm not holding my breath.

I do think the song sounds very Pink or Kelly Clarkson-esque, and if Allison becomes the next Pink, I think that would actually be pretty awesome. I know you want her to become the next Janis, but I don't know if that's very realistic ;)

(I have to admit, I don't really like the verses very much, but I'm kind of in love with the chorus. I think it's catchy in a good way. I can't stop singing it!)

I do worry about him sometimes, but I think Kris is being treated pretty good overall. Even though he didn't write it, I still think his single seems to be more "him", than Allison's. Did you listen to it yet? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WnmNvbomQE). lol at me pushing Kris on you again.

I love that we're having this conversation, btw :)
