Battlestar Galactica 4.13 "The Oath"

Wow.  Wow.  This has been a good week for TV.  First an awesome episode of Lost in "Jughead" (DESMOND!!!!!) and now quite possibly one of my favorite episodes of BSG ever!  Certainly one of the best of the whole season, and by far the most intense.
Because this episode?  INTENSE. Holy shit!  I can't even really be coherent or deep about anything that happened this episode because I spent the majority of it in a ball on my couch rocking back and forth, totally inconsolable.  I was near tears the entire time and I still can't get over it.  It was one of the best episodes but also one of the worst.  Everything was just so horrible.  I used to love Gaeta (Always hated Zarek.  He can go DIAF for all I care), but now how can I ever like Gaeta ever again?  I'm so conflicted!  While I think that Gaeta and Zarek have a little bit of a point in what they stand for, I cannot stand behind the craziness they've caused and I LOVED when Adama said Gaeta would die with nothing.
There were some pretty awesome things in this episodes though.  Starbuck and Apollo kicking ass (and making out! yay!) was awesome!  I missed this Starbuck.  And Tigh and Adama, guns blazing?  Hell yeah!  I also liked seeing Tyrol helping out and being non-crazy, and Roslin finally getting up and taking charge!
Things I really really didn't like?  Anything that happened to Caprica Six, Anders, Hera, Athena, HELO!!!!!!  If anything happens to these guys I will be done.  DONE!  I was so disturbed when they were beating up Anders (Seelix, you bitch!) and Helo, I was almost sick to my stomach.  Ugh!  I hate all this!
And yet...I love it.  It was just so dramatic and tense and action-packed and had a ton of things in it that make me love this show.  I can't wait to see the continuation next week, even though I'm also terrified.  Tigh can't really be dead, right?  And they wouldn't actually throw Adama out the airlock, yes?  Oh gods...someone hold me, I'm feeling upset again :(.

Lost 5.01 "Because You Left" and 5.02 "The Lie"

LOVED IT!  Wow, did I love it!  Complete and utter mind-frak, but I still loved it nonetheless.  EEEEEEEEEE I'M SO GLAD THIS SHOW'S BACK!!!!!!!!!!

Some questions:
  • What the hell was Daniel doing in the past with Marvin  Candle?!  ALSKDFJA;SLDJFASDJF;ASLDASLDKJFALS;DJF!!!! That was an awesome shock to start off the episode.  In relation to that, how is Daniel so awesome?  Because he is AWESOME!  I love him!
  • What's up with CS Lewis?  She's kind of growing on me with her cute little relationship with Daniel, but now she doesn't look long for this world.  Could it perhaps have to do with her maybe being born on the island. Hm...
  • If Daniel said that you can't change the past, how come he was able to change the past by talking to Desmond and giving him a new memory?  Is it because Desmond is Daniel's constant?  Or because Desmond is "special"?  Speaking of...
  • DESMOND IS SPECIAL OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok, so that wasn't really a question, but DESMOND!!! THE MOST SPECIALIST SNOWFLAKE!!!! YAY!!!! I knew he was special.
  • Why did Richard say that he wouldn't remember Locke the next time he saw him? Why is it the Others don't move through time too?  Or is there something else going on here?
  • Who were the people holding guns on Sawyer and Juliet (I'm ready for Sawyer/Juliet now please!) and who Locke killed?  Dharma? Some of Rousseau's people?
  • Ben.  Ben, what are you doing?  Are you going to create a Zombie!Locke?  Because that would be pretty darn awesome.
  • Is Sun turning to the dark side?  She was kind of creepy in her scene with Kate, but I like it!  I LOVE kick-ass Sun and I even like her connection with Widmore.  More Sun-Widmore stuff!
  • CRAZY TIME-TRAVEL LADY FROM DESMOND'S FLASHBACK?! WHAT?! That was unexpected.  And they need 70 hours to do something or else "God save us all".  What is going on here?  Could this lady possibly be Daniel's mother? That might be awesome.
I'm so confused!  But DID I MENTION I'M EXCITED THIS SHOW IS BACK? ASLKJF;ASLDKJF;ALSDKJF;LASKDJF;ASDSDLFJ!!!!!!!111111one

Lost Season 4 Review: Moving the island...

Review?  Well, maybe not a review.  Maybe more of a "rambling retelling of Season 4 including tears, capslock, and confusion".  Hey, I think that describes the majority of my blog posts, doesn't it?
Lost Season 4 was probably my favorite season since Season 1, and on par in quality.  Truth is, I've always loved Lost.  Even through Ana-Lucia, and bear cages, and Nikki and Paulo, I've always loved it.  I can admit to the fact that the show has hit some rough patches, but I think the positives of the show far outweigh the negatives.  So, of course, I may be a bit biased when it comes to evaluating Season 4, but I really do think Season 4 was genuinely on a level of quality higher than Seasons 2 and 3 and most other shows on television.  It was extremely well plotted, but above all, hit amazing character notes because of the introduction of the flash-forwards.  And that was the main reason why this season was so good.  The creators had the good faith to realize that the flashbacks were running stale and so they completely changed up the game and took the show in a new direction, allowing the viewers to get completely new perspectives on the characters we had grown to know.

Some comments on some of the episodes of Season 4:
4.01 "The Beginning of the End"- Lost has a history of starting off the season with a bang and this episode did not dissapoint.  The reveal of Hurley yelling, "I'm one of the Oceanic 6!" was extremely shocking and set up the mystery of the season wonderfully.  Who were the other members of the Oceanic 6? How did they all get off the island?  What happened to everybody else? And most importantly, why did Hurley say that they made a mistake and that they needed to go back (and what was up with Ghost!Charlie)?  A really great start to the season.

4.02 "Confirmed  Dead"-  A unique episode giving us little glimpses into the four people from the helicopter, Miles, Charlotte, Frank, and Daniel.  While we haven't gotten full flashbacks on each of these characters yet, this episode did a good job in giving us just enough to know a little about each one and perhaps some of their motivation for coming to the island.  I really wanted to mention this episode however because it introduced one of my new favorite characters, Daniel Faraday, who is awesome and lovable and mysterious and I can't wait to learn more about him!

4.05 "The Constant"- Probably my favorite episode of the season, because of the way that it gave us answers to a lot of the mysteries, yet also had wonderful character moments for Desmond.  Once again, I'm a bit biased because Desmond is one of my favorite characters (if not my number 1), and so I always enjoy his episodes, but I really feel like this episode was special.  While I liked his "time-travelling" Season 3 episode, "Flashes Before Your Eyes", it was always sort of frustrating for me because it left me feeling confused (like a lot of things on this show).  But "The Constant", while starting out confusing, eventually let the viewer piece together why Desmond's consciousness was traveling through time and why it related to the island, and why he needed to find his constant.  The reason why I like Desmond's character is because even though crazy, ridiculous things happen to him, he always feels like a real, grounded character and a genuinely good guy.  He's also a hopeless romantic, and one of the best story lines of the show has been his romance with Penny and their constant struggles to find one another.  The scene at the end of this episode where Desmond finally talks to Penny after being apart for so long is one of the most beautiful and powerful scenes this show has done.  A ton of credit has to be given to the heartbreaking performances of Henry Ian Cusick and Sonya Walger in that scene, so much so that the emotion generated from their conversation makes me cry every single time I watch it.  These are the scenes that to me, define why Lost is so good.  While they can do the shocking mysteries very well, it's the character payoff that really is what puts this show over the rest.

4.07 "Ji Yeon"-  This is another episode that succeeded because of the character moments.  Jin and Sun have been two of my favorite characters since the show's beginning and often, their episodes are my favorites of the season, and this was no exception.  I will admit to figuring out that Jin's flash-forward was really a flashBACK pretty quickly in the episode and felt  that in doing so, the episode was a bit manipulative, but it all came together in the end with Sun's flash-forward, culminating in the reveal of Jin's grave.  I was absolutely devastated at the end of this episode the first time I watched it because more than anything, I want those two to have a happy ending, and the reveal that Jin was dead was made even harder because of the absolutely beautiful scenes those two had together on the island (with more amazing performances by Daniel Dae Kim and Yunjin Kim).  While more stuff is revealed about Jin's supposed death in later episodes, this episode did an absolutely amazing job in showing us the beauty and the tragedy of Jin/Sun.

4.08 "Meet Kevin Johnson"- I specifically remember not liking this episode the first time I watched it.  I think because at that point, I had a strong dislike of Michael, stemming from his betrayal of his fellow islanders.  But on second watch, I found that the episode was a lot better based on the fact that I really felt badly for Michael.  I actually think now he's a character that is judged unfairly.  When we find him, his life is so unbelievably tragic, and his effort to make amends really does feel heartfelt, and therefore I found myself sympathizing.  I do think the episode suffers because of the extended flashback without any cuts back to the present, but I found this time around, the episode held up a lot better.

4.09 "The Shape of Things to Come"-  Oh, Ben.  Half of the time I hate him and the other half I'm intrigued by him.  This episode however, was one of the few episodes that I really felt sympathy for him.  I was absolutely SHOCKED that the show had Keamy kill Alex, but in doing so, you really saw a side of Ben you don't normally see, and it made his actions in his flash-forward make a lot more sense.  His crying over Alex's body was heartbreaking, and I loved the conversation he had with Charles Widmore at the end.  I was back to sort of maybe liking Ben a little bit...and then of course he threatened to kill Penny and I hated him again.  Oh, Ben...

4.13 "There's No Place Like Home (Part 2)"- So. Effin. Good.  I'll be a little undignified when talking about this episode because it really was pretty dang amazing, as most Lost finales are.  Why did I like it so much then?  Because they "went there".  When Locke said that they had to move the island, he really meant it.  I love it because everything can now be explained away by TIME TRAVEL!  Every crazy thing that has happened and will happen makes a little more sense now.  And Ben crying as he's turning the "frozen donkey wheel" because he can't come back was extremely powerful.  As was about a million other things this episode!  Sun screaming as she watches the supposed death of her husband (please don't be dead, Jin!), Sawyer being a big damn hero and jumping off the helicopter after kissing Kate, Ben letting Keamy die knowing full well that he's sealed the death of the people on the freighter, Claire visiting Kate in a dream telling her not to bring Aaron back, Hurley playing chess with Mr. Eko, Desmond finally reuniting with Penny in one of the most beautiful scenes this show has ever done, LOCKE IN THE COFFIN!!!!  Craziness.  And of course, in typical Lost fashion, the finale leaves even more questions than answers, ones that hopefully will be answered soon,  but really the finale succeeded in telling a very dramatic story in sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes emotional, sometimes surprising ways, that made for an extremely enjoyable 2 hours of television.

So, Lost Season 4.  I approve.  Here's to hoping Season 5 is just as good!  Just one more day!!!

TV Heaven

It may have come to some of your attention that my two favorite shows at the moment are Lost and Battlestar Galactica.
Shocking, I know.
So in honor of BSG returning last Friday and Lost returning this Wednesday and for both shows being incredibly frakking awesome, I'm going to post some fun BSG/Lost crossovers that have made me smile.

BSG trailer with clips from Lost.  See if you can match up the characters!

Station Galactica.  BSG credits with Lost clips.

I love TV.

I need a right foot shoe

You can watch the premiere of Season 2 of Flight of the Conchords here.  OR you can watch it tonight at 10 on HBO.
I've already watched it and thought it was hilarious.  Especially Murray's song.  And Bret's weaving.  Doesn't mean I won't be watching it tonight anyways with my Boom Queen shirt on though!

I'm also posting this video, because I think I may be in love with Murray.

I'm attending the So Say We All Slow-Clap-a-thon. Are you?

Yeah, it's today.  The beginning of the end.  I don't know if I'm ready to say goodbye yet, but I'm so excited to see where the journey ends.  It's the best frakkin show on television, and it's coming to a close.  There's just a few things I'm curious to find out:
  • What happened to Earth?
  • What happened to Kara?  (What is Kara?)
  • Who is the 5th cylon?  (Billy?!  Bob Dylan?!)
  • What is the origin of the "Head" characters (Head Six, Head Gauis)?
  • What's the significance of "this has happened before and it will all happen again" (besides just being really creepy)?
Hopefully these are some of the questions that will be answered during these last 10 episodes.  But even if none of them are answered, I don't think I'll be that disappointed.  As long as I get to be with my favorite characters, I'll be happy.  Because that's the real strength of the show.
I've already marathoned Season 4.0.  I've watched all the You Will Know The Truth clues.  I've eaten up the webisodes (Gaeta!).  I'm ready.  Get excited, people!  We're in for a crazy 10 episodes!

Bonus!
In preparation of the new season, watch this video about the music of BSG.  It may be the funniest thing you watch all week:

Also, read this: Battlestarbook.  Hilarious.

Some more 2009 ramblings:
I added a few new blogs to the sidebar, including a great television blog, The Watcher, and in honor of Good Grief talking about the Wings , I've added my favorite Detroit Red Wings blog, Abel to Yzerman (besides television, the Wings are probably the thing I'm obsessed with the most).  And last but not least, The Stuff That Dreams Are Made Of, friend of Ashitaka's Angels, The Derelict's, video blog.  Enjoy!
I'm doing a Lost season 4 rewatch and so far, I'm finding I'm enjoying it just as much as I did the first time I watched it.  Look for a Season 4 in review post later in the week.
Promotion for Battlestar is heating up.  You have to check out the You Will Know the Truth website.  The clues are getting crazier and crazier every week!  Also, visit Galactica Sitrep for all the new promos, interviews, etc.  I think I desperately want this dvd set.
