Amy Poehler is honest, genuine and someone worth knowing. She provides a peek into her life and her what following her passion took and where it took her and who she became as a result. 

She provides readers with three points of advice: Say what you want, Do what you want and Be who you are. 

Read it if you haven't and she's a great voice to carry in your purse/bag for a bit. 

Favorite Song: "Compass" by Lady Antebellum

There are a ton of a great songs and fun songs that came out this year and party jams but something from Lady Antebellum's track really resonants with my being. 

Here's the chorus for you to peruse for yourself:

I find it encouraging, great for a road trip and simply great advice to follow. It really just became my anthem this year. 

Best New Show: Selfie

I have been made aware of the terrible truth, but from what I have seen I have enjoyed every bit of it. The cast is hilarious. I love John Cho and wish he were on TV and many other screens all the time. He and Karen Gillian (who is amazeballs) have wonderful give and take. I really wanted to see where their characters Henry and Eliza went and how they changed and effected one another. Also the supporting cast was phenomenal and split siding funny. Lastly I really enjoyed the evaluation, analysis and response to the current popular culture. 

Besides where are going to get good old Henry gems such as these:

“You need to go. Just pack your paper holes and get out of here.”

“As you can imagine, I will now be removing that jam from my playlist”

It was nominated for a People’s Choice Award—good grief ABC! Please, please oh please hear my cry Netflix!

Best Movie: Veronica Mars & Gone Girl

Veronica Mars came out in March and all of our fangirls dream came true. Surprise guest stars, Wallace and of course the ending and answers to what became of Logan and Veronica. Eep! I really enjoyed it and have never been happier to support this Kickstarter project. I’ll probably be watching it tomorrow :D

Gone Girl happens to be the most screwed up book I have ever read and became a movie I waited nearly a year to see. It was a great translation and the cast, crew, writers and director did a phenomenal job bringing it to the silver screen.  Marriage is hard and being in love is a lot different than being married. So when Amy goes missing all eyes are on Nick. I love the way that Gillian creates and builds her characters. Further I really appreciate the role of the media and the power it has over the public’s perception. Flynn’s assessment of its role in our judicial system is genius. Gillian Flynn #kudos.

Hardest Goodbye: Psych 

C'mon Son. Talk about friendship and humorous hijinks. No one does it better than Shawn and Gus. The final episode was excellent and help with the easing but I will miss the mysteries and the craziness that is Shawn Spencer and the neurotic Gus. Plus there was a musical! Doesn't get any better than Gus and Shawn and the crew singing their lungs out. 


Best Discovery: Digital reading, Sherlock & Scandal 

Yes, yes. I am late on all three fronts but now that I have discovered these amazing and wonderful things I shan't go back. Thank you Polar Vortex.

First off, I am old school about books and will probably never stop buying hard copies but its super nice to have a book in like 4 inches of tablet. And really comfortable for reading in bed.

Sherlock—okay obviously its brilliant. The casting, the production, the twist and turns; seriously this show is just great and unfortunately we have only 9 episodes at this point to keep us company as we wait for season 4 on the edge of our seats.

Scandal is just amazing; it’s clever, it’s scandalous. Kerry Washington is the modern female hero on Capitol Hill and she is amazing at everything she does—until you meet her father.  Even though Olivia Pope is the protagonist, she is flawed and faulty and just what I want to watch on a Thursday night.

Parks and Recreation's Final season

I’ll be sad but I’m sure it will be fantastic. I have truly enjoyed watching this episodic series about a small parks and recreation office in Pawnee, IN. It’s been fun seeing the crazy, creative and hilarious things that Leslie Knope has gotten herself, Ron, Ann, Donna, April, Andy, Jerry, Ben and Chris into. The writers have given us sentimental and meaningful gems such as “I like you and I love you” or comedy gold like “The only thing I’ll be waving is your decapitated head on a stick in front of your weeping mother!” Yup a show for the ages and will always have a special place in my heart. I’ll always cherish blaming Jerry for anything that goes wrong in life.

I look forward to seeing Leslie Knope having it all with Ben Wyatt in tow (he’s totes adorable—seriously every time he wears his Letters to Cleo shirt, I lose it). The beginning of the end starts on January 13.

Maroon 5 Tour

Last night the Ashitaka Angels ventured to the Palace to experience the spectacle that is Maroon 5.

It was everything I hoped for and more. Some might say we had an obstructed view of the stage, I like to think that we got a premium view of the lead singer, Adam Levine's tush. Besides that Adam is very at home on the stage--from the moment the show started you could tell that the stage is where he belonged. Further his enthusiasm was off the charts! The band was happy to have every single person there; it was repeated many times and it just made me feel all warm and proud to be apart of their sold out night.

In addition Adam, made specific efforts to sing to our "nosebleed" section of the arena. The music was excellent they played every single one of their hits! So if you love the stuff you hear from on the radio you will definitely enjoy a night with Maroon 5.

Lea and I totally went nuts during "Wake Up Call" and I almost passed out from his stage presences and performance for "One More Night." I just had so much adrenaline going through me and his hip work is a marvelous wonder. The guitarist James Valentine did an excellent job--and I know, I'm sure you're thinking no brainer -but the riffs were a true treat to the ears.

Overall it was one of the funnest nights of my life, my runny nose agrees and I woke up with Adam's voice in my head. It was a fantastic night and experience and I absolutely recommend finding a way to experience it yourself.

GG's Farewell to 2012

Traditionally I make a list of all the best things that I've found in the past year so here there are. Consider them GG approved :)

1. Best Book
No brainier! How about the books that captivated my attention in a matter of days, The Hunger Games Trilogy  Yes it's a worldwide phenomenon indeed but they have become so much more to me than that. a Suzanne Collins shares the story of Katniss Everdeen, a loner in  a post-apocalyptic world who becomes a symbol for her country. Whilst Katniss is a strong protagonist the readers are given a chance to see her struggle and the subsequent changes that come about from her journey and ability to survive.

2. Best Discovery

Doctor Who?
What can I say about this beloved  and brilliant series? Well to be honest I could go on for hours but for you guys I'll simply put it this way; this series offers adventure, courage, sacrifice, discovery, fun--simply it's magic. Viewers are given a unique opportunity to travel with a regenarating, imaginative and impossible man of a Doctor from a fanciful planet, a dark past with an iconic blue, TARDIS blue police phone box. It offers childlike, impulsive behavior, surprising and wonderfully remarkable companions--each magnificent in their own way.  And with all this knowledge, power and legendary history that the impossible Doctor provides, I cannot wait for more adventures and surprises.

3. Best Comedy

Plus Awesome Guest Stars! Hello Mr. Vice President

Seeing as I've already written a love letter to the cast and writers of Parks and Recs I just leave you with this, if you aren't watching it get on that. I promise you won't regret it. They dynamics and juxtaposition of the cheerful can-do Leslie Knope and liberal, government hating Ron Swanson is enough to spark glee in this viewer.






4. Best Sophomore Season

I'd have to say Revenge, last season the story of Emily Thorne and her desire for revenge kept the viewers on the edge of their seats and with her return to the Hamptons and after all the drama that her detailed plans caused the writers still had a twist up their sleeves. Her mother was still alive and Emily became even more determined to bring down the Grayson's with more vengeance than ever. Ultimately the season never deterred and kept the viewers wanting more--which often proves hard to do in a second season.

5. Best Song 
"Call Me Maybe"

Yes, indeed it was the most popular song of the year, but besides the fun and easy pick up line that it provides I love the parody's and various remakes that the song sparked. Well done Carly Rae









6. Best Film 

Now this year I didn't get to the thereat all that often but I'd have to say that this summer The Avengers stole my heart and sealed it away. I've always been a major fan of superhero films and The Avengers gave us fantastic interactions between some of our favorite Marvel characters. Joss Whedon gave us all we dreamed of while anticipating the mash-up of SHIELD, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Captain America.


7. Best Website

This year I finally succumbed and started a Twitter account. And became instantly addicted, yes indeed the best waste of time a gal could find. I'm sure all of you are familiar with Twitter but just in case, its a website that allows you to share a thought in a 140 characters and to follow people that you talk to on a daily basis and the people you wish to speak to on a daily basis. Some of my favorite tweets come from a childhood friend, Adam Levine and Mindy Kaling. It is AWESOME :) Look me up @MightyMaxine






8. Hardest Goodbye

American television provides a lot of information and a lot of series come and go, but the ones that stick around and become a part of your routine or water cooler chatter can really stick with you. If this category was about characters then the Whovian in me would most certainly have to say letting go of Ten this summer was beyond impossible. Farewell my beloved bouncy, skinny Doctor. And don't even get me started on the massacre provided by Steven Moffat in "The Angels Take Manhattan," in which we say goodbye to the beloved Ponds who became The Doctor's family.  Since this category has to do with a series as a whole, which I lost 3 of:  One Tree Hill, Chuck and Gossip Girl. I'd have to say One Tree Hill because I've been attached to that series since high school and grew up with Haley, Brooke, and Nathan. They taught me about life and survival--even if the story lines were way more dramatic than my own life--the fundamental things that everyone struggles with these characters traversed and overcame.

I don't know how many followers this blog has. I can guess that it probably doesn't have too many. But for those of you who have been following it, you probably have noticed that Kris Allen has been a bit of a theme around these parts. This blog has been a sort of ~evolution of my Kris stanning and while I know I've talked about many things on this blog besides Kris, I find going back and seeing how my obsession grew is one of the most interesting things. Because go back to the first time I ever wrote about Kris, and I was absolutely shocked at how much I liked him...and how he could have actually gotten me to pick up the phone and vote for him.

The best thing though? This post right here. I was convinced that Kris was going home. So convinced I swore to never watch the show again. Also amusing? This post. Where I also was convinced Kris was going home. It's funny to look back on because I never in a million years thought that Kris would win the show. I prayed every single week that he would make it just a little bit further every week, so that even if he didn't win, someone might see him and and see what I saw in him and give him a record deal. But then he kept making it every week. And then he was all of a sudden in the top 2. And then he freaking won the whole freaking show.

Kris, someone who I really truly believe in their talent, put out an album today. One in which he wrote the majority of his songs (including "Red Guitar" which he wrote all by himself), and one in which he should be very proud of. I've heard horror stories about Idol albums in the past, but this album I believe is really genuinely good. Do I look forward to his future albums a little more? Yes. As his career goes on, he is sure to get more creative freedom and will be able to write more on his own. But as for now, I am enjoying the heck out of this album and I can't wait until I get to see him perform these songs live. I'm really proud of him and I'm proud to call myself his fan.

Haven't posted in a while

Today I had a conversation with myself that went something like this:

"Self, you haven't posted to the blog in a while, and that's sad

"You're right self, I haven't. I should rectify that soon. But what to post? Mad Men finale reactions?"

"No. You will only embarrass yourself again. Leave that up to Zozizzle. She owes you an epic Mad Men finale post."

"Ah, good idea, self. Hm...Oh! I know! Let's make a post about Kris Allen! You're good at that!"

"Yes, self! Excellent idea! Kris Allen posts are pretty much the only thing I'm good at nowadays!"

Well, now that we've gotten the fact that I'm a crazy person out of the way, let's get to it! Kris has been doing a ton of radio concerts lately, including one on Sunday in Napa. He played an acoustic set, including this freaking awesome mashup of Heartless and Gangsta's Paradise (yes, you read that right):



If you still don't believe in Kris's talent after that, then I don't even know what to say to you. There may be something wrong with you.

He also did a Falling Slowly/With or Without You mashup that is really beautiful.

And guess what? Myself and The Derelict are going to be seeing Kris in Chicago on December 4th! I'm so excited I might throw up.

Oh, and I'm just going to throw this out there, AOL is streaming Kris's entire album on their site right now. I'm not going to go into what I think of it and all that now, I'll probably do that later, but in case you want to check out his new music, click the link. I'll say this though, I really really love it, and I'm so proud of him.

STFU Glamberts! It's totally possible to like both Adam AND Kris. Shocking, I know, but I really do love Adam a lot and am super happy, because I'm really liking his new single!

It's very dance/pop/electronica/techno/Lady Gaga-ish. I can totally imagine myself freak dancing to this in a club (if I was the kind of person who frequented clubs). I admit to originally being a little worried, because the direction Adam was going in isn't really my kind of music, but I really like this, so yay! His album comes out November 23rd! Look at that, I like all of Kradison's singles a lot. Best Top 3 ever! (Gokey who?)

Allison Iraheta's New Single, "Friday I'll Be Over U"

Hey, look at that! Not everything is about Kris Allen after all.

Y'all remember Allison? The little red haired rocker, with one of the most amazing voices you will ever hear? Yeah, it's her first single! I'll admit that this is a little more pop than I was expecting from her, and I think it's overproduced a little bit too much, to the point where sometimes it's hard to distinguish her unique voice. But overall? I kind of love it. It's catchy as hell and I already have it stuck in my head. I hope it's a huge hit for her, and I'm kinda hoping she becomes the 100 million times more awesome and talented version of Miley Cyrus, since I think they'll be marketing her towards the same market. Her album will also be out on December 1st! I can't wait! Go Allison!

You know what? We haven't had one of these in a while. No really, we haven't. What do you mean I bring him up in every post anyways? I don't know what you're talking about.

I know a while back I was going to write up a big post about Kris and what he means to me, etc. etc., but that would take me forever now, so let's just do an all encompassing, fun, 'I Love Kris Allen Post', yeah!

Hey guess what? I went to the tour! Me and Zozizzle turned into a couple of crazy Idol fanatics and went to the goddamn tour. And it was amazing. Matt Giraud touched me OMG, Anoop Desai impregnated me with his sexy, Allison Iraheta proved why she's the next Janis Joplin, I had a religious experience watching Adam Lambert do "Whole Lotta Love", and then Kris Allen came out and I died. I had to be brought back to life in order to write this post. I am now a zombie. Braaaaiiinnnss....

Different than he did on the show and in the studio. Totally rocking (and jeez louis could he hold that note on "soul" any longer?). And now, let's talk about November 17th. What's on November 17th you ask? What the hell is wrong with you, dumb bitch?! It's only the day that Kris Motherfucking Allen's album comes out! Gosh.

To say I'm excited about his album would probably be an understatement. You can pre-order it on Amazon if you want! I have. I have also pre-ordered it on iTunes. And I'm going to buy 5 copies of it when it's actually released. What? That's totally normal. His single actually should be released pretty soon and I'm shaking and crying with anticipation.

Want a little more info about his album? Well that's too bad because I'm too lazy to look up stuff right now, but trust me when I say he's been working with some pretty cool people (Mat Kearney and Joe King being the first to come to mind). Instead, I'm going link you to some of his pre-Idol stuff. He self-produced an album called "Brand New Shoes" when he was like 22 and it is FANTASTIC. For being that young and for self-producing, it's really really good. I listen to it all the damn time. Kris thinks the CD is "immature", and if this is what he considers immature, than hot damn, I can't wait to listen to his new CD. Download for ya, if you like.

And to be serious for a bit, it's been a long time since I've been this invested in someone before. Not only did Kris make me care about music again, but I really do look up to him as a human being. He's one of the nicest, most generous, talented people I've ever seen, and I'm really really proud to be his fan. I want him to be successful, but more than that, I want him to be happy, because he deserves it. I don't know if this is weird to say, but he means a lot to me. He made my depressing and boring summer a lot more fun. I can't wait until his album comes out and he has his own solo tour and I can follow his career, because I know I'll be a fan of his for a very very long time. /sappy

A song I've recently become obsessed with. Though I love the words of the song I think that it has to do with the love interest of the singer. In comparison to her other hits ("Hot N Cold" & Ur So Gay), these words are deep and the video works in context with the lyrics. The whole time that she's with this inferior guy she keeps seeing scenes filled with contentment with her true love. They even tie into the fact that Kyle Tragger will always linger in my heart. Finally I love the fact that she chose to do a period video, I wish we would see more of them and it fits perfectly into the story. Plus Matt Dallas in uniform = greatness and charm.

Also you can see Dallas in his new film, currently in post production, As Good As Dead. All we know is that it's a thriller about revenge. I have a viewing code against horrors and thrillers but I might just have to break it to see my fave blue-eyed clone...

The Beauty of Liveness

Today we live in a world where anything and everything can be accessed through our fingertips in the blink of an eye, depending on your Internet connection. Because of this, I think we forget how amazing it is to experience something in real life. So I implore of you that you take the time to go to a museum and see the art for yourself, breath it in or go to that concert cause it truly is a wonderful experience.

This afternoon I was in a group of fifty who got to be serenaded by the sexy, beautiful band mates of The Script, an Irish band from Dublin consisting of Dan, Mark and Glen. After spending a brief moment with them after the show at Borders in Ann Arbor, they definitely all sweeties and my fave has to be Danny. The singer who also plays the a mean set of keys!

Breakeven - The Script

It's been such a long time...

I feel really bad about not writing on the blog for as long as I have, but school lately has been kicking my ass. This is the first time I'm able to finally sit down and have a go at the blogging for a long time.  Because of this, this post is going to be a roundup of all the things I've wanted to talk about the past 2 weeks, but haven't been able to because of being busy.

Things That Are Happy Making:

• Adam Baldwin as agent John Casey on Chuck.  I love Chuck.  I think it's a really funny, cute, clever little show that more people should watch.  But my absolute favorite part of the show?  Casey.  Adam Baldwin can say more in Casey's signature "grunts" than most actors can say in words.  This is my favorite Chuck scene, by the way.
• The last episode of Fringe was by the far the best episode of the whole show.  I like Fringe, but I normally don't really pay that much attention to it while I watch, but this episode had me on the edge of my seat.  I was actually really upset that we have to wait until January for the new episodes.  Walter and Peter are still the best parts of this show, and I find that their relationship is really interesting and kind of sweet (in a twisted sort of way).  Ya'll need to become acquainted with Walter.  He's a riot!
• Speaking of best episodes of television shows, the True Blood finale.  Fantastic.  Normally for me, this show is a mixture of cheesy badness and sort of goodness, but the finale was all goodness.  Sam and Tara are still my favorites, and I can't wait to find out what's up with Admiral Cain.  (I really hope Lafayette's not dead though!).  For the lols: Sookie...can you feel my influence?
• The oldest ever Lolcat!  From 1905!  And it still can't get a cheezburger!  Words cannot describe how awesome this is.
• HBO has bought the rights to turn the "A Song of Ice and Fire" book series by George R R Martin into a television series!  I love these books!  I just finished "A Clash of Kings" and I'm already on to "A Storm of Swords".  If they do it right, this show is going to be awesome!  Tricia Helfer for Cersei!
• New promo for season 2 of Flight of the Conchords:

• Twilight in Fifteen Minutes: SAY MY NAME, BITCH!  Also, OMG LEIK HI MAH NAME IS ISABELLA SWAN.  Plus, OMG EDWARD IM SO BORED IM SERIOUSLY GOING TO DIE OMG.  The Twilight fandom can be pretty amazing sometimes.
• I don't know guys, I may be more excited for Lost to return than Battlestar Galactica.  I don't know what's wrong with me, but I've been on such a Lost kick lately.  I can't wait until the DVDs come out!  New season 5 promo pic.
• Now, this doesn't mean I'm not excited for Battlestar.  Oh my freaking god am I excited for Battlestar!  Here's the new promo for the season:
• OMG ADAMA IN THE AIRLOCK, WHAT?  Here's a mysterious website with mysterious clues for the upcoming season: You will know the truth.  These last episodes are going to be epic.
• Prince Caspian on DVD.  For Narniaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!

Things That Are Sad Making:

• So, I knew I would have to mention this sooner or later, but Pushing Daisies has been cancelled.  I think I felt like if I didn't mention it, it would make it not true, but alas.  This is especially hard because the last few episodes have just been amazingly good.  Our drunk, Twilight-watching friend, The Derelict, has a wonderful rant about the subject here. 
• Heroes.  This is the stupidest show on TV at the moment and I can't believe I keep subjecting myself to it every week.  I liked this show during the first season.  I didn't love it by any means, and I always felt like people praised it way more than it deserved (I love this article: News Flash: Heroes Was Always Bad), but I enjoyed it nonetheless, mostly because it was something new and fresh and exciting and I really liked some of the characters (Ando! Nathan!).  Now that all the newness has worn off however, it's just...bad.  And it gets my blood boiling more than any other show.  This show has crappy dialogue, annoying characters, horrible acting, inconsistent characterization, and totally indiscernible plots.  And don't even get me started on what the show has done to Sylar.  That, my friends, is the worst crime of them all.  It's gotten so bad, I was happy that Elle got killed off so Kristin Bell can be free of this crappy show.  Fly away, Kristin Bell!  Fly away, to bigger and better things (like a Veronica Mars movie).  And yet, I keep watching out of some sick hope that maybe it will get better (or for the fact that it comes on after Chuck so I just leave the TV on out of habit).  I can't wait until 24 comes back in January so I will have no choice but to stop watching.
• House.  Why?  Why do the writer's love Thirteen so much? WHY?!  You know, I didn't hate Thirteen when she was first introduced, but the fact that she is shoved down our throats constantly every single week has made me LOATHE her.  She has freaking more screen time than House for gosh sakes!  Her character isn't even that interesting, and Olivia Wilde isn't even that great of an actress!  So why do the writers insist on giving her so many story lines? She makes me miss Cameron....and I used to hate Cameron!  I know this sounds silly, but Thirteen is ruining this show for me.  I was way more interested in this week's episode of Fringe than I was House.  And that makes me sad, because House was a show I used to consider a favorite, and now I barely care about it.  Go DIAF, Thirteen!  Even professional television critics agree with me!

So, I just found out that Ingrid Michaelson is coming to Ann Arbor, our headquaters, oops I may have said to much....



I love her music and this is a momentous occasion for all to enjoy. Hoping to get tix soon and you should too, before you loose your chance to hear this amazing gal.
